Amazon FBA Prep Requirements: A Seller's Checklist
Getting your inventory received quickly at Amazon starts with correct prep. Here's a practical checklist covering labeling, poly bagging, bundling, expiration dates, and box content so your shipments avoid delays and unplanned fees.
July 9, 2026 · By PrepFort TeamWhy prep matters
Amazon's receiving process is strict for a reason: consistent prep keeps inventory flowing and protects buyers. When units arrive mislabeled, unbagged, or missing required warnings, shipments get delayed, flagged, or hit with unplanned prep fees. Getting prep right the first time is the fastest, cheapest way to keep your account healthy.
Labeling
Every unit needs a scannable FNSKU label that covers the manufacturer barcode. Print labels clearly, place them on a flat surface, and never wrap them around edges where scanners struggle. For case-packed products, confirm whether your items can ship by manufacturer barcode or require individual labeling.
Poly bagging and safety warnings
Poly bags larger than five inches on any side must carry a suffocation warning, and bags should be sealed rather than loosely folded. Sharp or fragile items need protective packaging so they arrive intact. Sets and bundles must be bagged and labeled as a single sellable unit and clearly marked "sold as set" so they are not separated.
Expiration dates and lot control
Consumables, supplements, and topicals often require visible expiration dates in a specific format, and Amazon receives them under first-expiry rules. Track lots and best-by dates before you ship so nothing arrives too close to expiration and gets rejected.
Box content and shipping
Provide accurate box content information, including SKUs, quantities, and weights per carton, so Amazon can receive faster with fewer discrepancies. Label each carton, stay within weight and dimension limits, and palletize when required for LTL shipments.
Let a prep partner handle it
A dedicated prep center absorbs these details for you: receiving, inspection, labeling, bagging, expiration checks, and box content, all done to spec with transparent pricing. That means fewer errors, faster receiving, and more time to grow your business.
